For the love of art...

I choose what I want to think... and do what I want to do... and keep doing what I am doing... Eventually, I turn my thought into reality...

Horse...

This horse gives me a feeling of melancholy. This picture was taken at the zoo. I wonder if these horses are happy living in the zoo. For me, I would prefer to live in the wild, look for food and run away from my predators. Melanie has a different view. She would rather live in the zoo and be safe than sorry. :o)

The elephant is my favourite animal. If you ask me what I would like to be if I can choose to be an animal, I would like to be an elephant. Reasons are, they are big enough to protect themselves and they are herbivores!
While I was at the zoo that day, I fed the elepants. When my basket of fruits was empty, I offered the empty basket to the elephant but the elephant retracted its trunk immediately, refusing to take the basket. I laughed at my mischief then.

I enjoyed myself thoroughly at the zoo especially during the elephant feeding session. I will make it a point to visit the zoo often.

Doraemon...

This is my Doraemon. What I like about him is he has a really big head and he is always smiling. I have a medium-sized Doramon soft toy with me. I realised that he has protruding muscles on one of his arms :o). Think he plays badminton too :o).
In these two pictures, Doraemon doesn't look cool but pretends to look so on both pictures. I have an "ang bao" stuffed in his wonder pocket. His wonder pocket is full of magic. Sometimes, I wonder if he is able to fully reach into his pocket given that he has such short pair of hands. :o). Nevertheless, I love my big round head...

White terrier dog...

This is a white terrier dog. Terrier dogs are very active dogs when they are indoors. Terrier dogs are commonly seen around. This dog is clean and has white-trimmed fur. I like her the moment I looked at her. So cute...
Here is another piece of "Forever Friends" drawing.

My cat...

Miemi's close up portrait. This is one of my favourite portraits. It was so difficult to capture miemi looking up this way. I think she is all so cute.

Let me share with you my cat's daily behaviour. She would bite my toe if I were to oversleep. She would stare at me while I am sleeping at night. Sometimes, when I open my eyes in the morning,  her face is right in front of me and I would tend to get a shock. I'll pat her whenever she behaves this way. Hopefully she is not at all lonely.

Miemi would lie on top of the washing machine, looking out of the window most of the morning. I guess she enjoys the morning breeze. She knows my habit well too. Every morning after my shower, she would wait at the front door, knowing that I would allow her to roam outside the house for a while. She is always at my corridor and dare not go further. She would spend her morning "inspecting". When it is time for me to go to work, she would come home by herself. I make sure she has at least 30mins outside every morning. When it is weekend, as I am not working, I usually let her out a bit longer, 2 to 4 hrs, knowing she enjoys looking at the birds and plants. My neighbour has many types of plant and the flowers which bloom well and attract a number of birds and butterflies. One thing I love about Miemi is, she is never far away.

She is always at the door when I am home after work. I didn't know when I started to put on a smile everytime I open the door. I just smile. It became a habit and I love it. Leaving home smiling and returning home smiling. Waking up smiling and going to bed smiling...

She would spend the rest of the evening lying lazily all around the house. When I am in the room, she lies in the room and when I am at the hall, she would sleep at the hall. Interesting Miemi...

Learn how to draw Stitch...

I drew it with a 2B pencil and shaded with 3B, 4B and 5B pencils. For the outline sketch, use a 2B pencil.  Take note of the proportions.  You need to exercise your judgement to gauge the proportions.

After the outline sketch is made, you can start shading.  Erase unnessary lines.  Always remember to use a cloth to cover the shaded area. Do not rest your hand on the shaded area, rest instead on the cloth while shading on the other area. This is to avoid smudging.

The power of shading is in the ability to show the contrast in light.  For me, sketching is easy but when it comes to shading, it may take a certain level of patience. Shading is not colouring. You have to do it bit by bit, unless we are talking about shading on a large area. Then you might want to consider using charcoal. We definitely don't need one for this piece of sketch.

Be patient and finish the drawing. You'll be surprised at how well you are able to draw at the end of it :o).

Mickey Mouse..

Another picture from Walt Disney which everybody is familiar with. Can anyone still remember when was the last time that you watched Mickey Mouse cartoon on TV? During my time, I would sit right in front of the TV, waiting to watch mickey mouse cartoon. I wonder if children now know about Mickey Mouse or even enjoy watching Mickey Mouse as much as we do? With  Disneyland sprouting all over the world, I believe Mickey Mouse is still children's favourite icon, be it be the past or the future.

I have not been watching TV programmes for quite some time. I watch DVD only when I am free during the weekends. Most of the time when I am free, I would browse the net and search for info. I can live without a TV at home but not without a PC. I would feel kind of handicapped without a PC and a mobile. I think many would agree with me...

Each picture cost $23 and above.

Beauty and the Beast...

"Certain as the sun. Rising in the east. Tale as old as time. Song as old as rhyme. Beauty and the beast." That's my all-time favourite. Beauty and the Beast is shaded with 3B, 4B, 5B and 6B pencils and it is drawn with 2B pencil.

Can anyone still remember the storyline? While I was drawing this, the music kept repeating in my head and it was always "...beauty and the beast, beauty and the beast, beauty and the beast." :o)

I have always wondered how the Disney characters would look like if i turn it into pencil shading. I drew and shaded them and I just love it.

If you have Disney characters that you love and would like it to be shaded in pencil, do email me the picture.

Each picture cost $23 and above.

Forever Friends...

I changed the colour of my living room to welcome a brand new year this year. I had it painted in olive green with a "Forever Friends" theme decorated on my wall.

Before this, a Disney jig-saw puzzle was being displayed. With a new year, I wanted my drawings to be displayed. Some of the pictures were drawn in year 2006. I draw about anything wherever I have time and drawing is therapeutic to me.

"Forever Friends" gives me a feeling of tenderness... A kind of peaceful and blissful feeling. I don't know what took me so long to put up these drawings.
I have been keeping them in my sketch book, leavng them alone whenever I finished them.

You too can have your home decorated with your favourite cartoon characters.

Please pardon me if the pictures are not sharp enough.

Each picture cost S$23 and above. 23Discounts for 2 or more pieces.

Mitch, the rabbit...

Mitch was the cutest rabbit I have ever had. He was so special in every way. I remembered when I woke up in the morning, he would hop around me in a circular manner. Round and round he would hop. All he brought to me was laughter. He always showed me how high he could hop and how far he could go. Sometimes he behaved a bit weird. He would jerk his head frequently but I found him special.

For some reason, I had to give him away 2 years ago. I found him a good owner. The owner is a pet lover too. I visited her house and I was so happy that Mitch had 2 brothers. However, I heard from the owner lately that Mitch started fighting with his brothers and she had to give him away. My little playful Mitch... I heard from the owner that the owner who is adopting Mitch right now has a girlfriend for Mitch and Mitch is in safe hands.

I pray for Mitch's safety. My little playful angel...

A Snow Dog Portrait...

I got to know snowdogs from the movie, Snowdog, in 2002. They look gorgeously handsome and attractive. They have eyes that look sharp. I don't usually see snowdogs everywhere in Singapore. When I have a chance to see them, I would ask the owner's permission to pat them and even communicate with them.

I was lucky enough to take a picture of one snowdog. When I was drawing, I have to look at every detail on the dog's face.  This really charmed me. All pets have their own uniqueness, so does my little angel, Miemi Lee...
Once, I saw a Snowdog in Circuit Road. The dog was overweight but it still looked gorgeous. Thinking about it, the dog was really too overweight :o). Guess the owner must have overly pampered the dog. I am equally guilty when it comes to my cat... I believe all owners love their pet. However, to love a pet does not mean to spoil a pet. A pet's health is still of paramount importance...

The beauty of Sketching...

All my life, I've learnt to suppress my passion for art. So many people keep telling me that art is not practical in Singapore and that artists would starve. I had to give up art and work in jobs which I hate. I am glad that after all these years, I have the courage to pursue my dreams.

My little angel on the right, has accompanied me for 8 years. A wonderful 8 years. I always ask her if she could dance like Garfield haha...
It was raining heavily that night. I heard a kitten's wailing outside my corridor. I opened my door and saw a tiny angel which seemed to have lost its way. I was living on the 10th storey then and U wondered why and how she got here. I took my angel in, fed her and bathed her. I allowed her to sleep for the night. This little angel of mine behaved so well. By morning, she was still on the couch which i placed her for the night. She started to meow when she heard me coming out from the bedroom. I picked her up merely with my thumb and forefinger. She was so tiny and I guessed she must be hungry. Since she was so obedient, she was allowed to stay for another night. I left her on the couch again and the next morning, she was still at the same position. All right, I told myself that there would not be another night for her. I left my door wide open that afternoon, expecting her to leave and continue exploring the world. However, whenever she reached the door, she turned back immediately.

Days passed in a flash. She is 8-years-old now. She brings me so much joy, love and comfort. I didn't know having such wonderful pet could make a person smile everyday. Especially after a long tired day at work, when i get back home, she is always at the door waiting for me. Who says cats don't greet their owners?

When I took up drawing again, my angel is my natural subject. Every line and shade of her contains the love I have not only for her but also for the love of art...

Move with art...

Art goes everywhere with me, therefore, I have to move with art :0). Art is a beautiful and amazing thing to me. It knows no boundaries and gives me endless moment of joy. Sketching is a wonder. Shading is a beauty. When both are conbined, they become part of me.

I love to draw since i was young. A pencil on my right and an eraser on my left is how it became of me.The first drawing that i drew was in Primary 2. It was a drawing of a troop of chinese soldiers riding on their horses. I remember well because it was my first drawing being put up behind the board in my classroom. My art teacher was amazed by my ability to draw. She scratched her head and asked me how i drew the picture. I shrugged my shoulder and scratched my head too and replied "i don't know". I was scared to death at that moment being asked to stand and questioned by my teacher, Mrs Siew.

As i grew up, I realised I love sketching more than anything else. A piece of paper and a 2B pencil sketch my mood for the day...
